First stage - description

The first stage - Survey and researching of the most significant factors which have impact on the ecological condition of the region
October 2008 - January 2009

During this stage of the project students and Geography and Biology teachers will be involved. While working in the group they are going to do the following tasks: 1. survey of all those factors which have the impact on the local ecological environment. 2. researching the issue of existing natural disasters and their impact on the environment 3. examining the matter of deforestation as far as legal aspects are concerned. Every school will do the realization of these tasks in a different way depending on the geographical and environmental conditions of every school. Meetings and trips will be also organized. Local institutions associated with the protecting of the environment will be also involved while working on this stage of the project. The results of the work will be showed in the form of presentations and articles which will be placed on the Internet page of the project.

First stage - the results of the work

The first stage of the project has been finished. During this stage the students of cooperating schools were researching the ecological conditions of their regions.

Our students were working in 4 groups under the guidance of Geography and Biology teacher. They did the following tasks:
1. Natural disasters and their impact on the environment
While working on this stage of this project students were working together with the Crisis Management Department. There, they gained materials which enable them to know about the natural disasters existing in our region and their impact on the environment. The most important one was the document presenting the flood in 2001. Multimedia presentations will be the summary of students%u2019 work.

2. The impact of Sulphur Mine in Machów and Chemical Company Siarkopol on the environment.
The students were researching the impact of the chemical company Siarkopol and Sulphur Mine in Machów ( in collapse ) on the environment. Some visits had been organized to these institutions and also the meetings with the workers. The students gained a lot of materials on the basis of which multimedia presentations will be done, summing up their work.

3. Researching the ecological condition of the region using the „lichen range”
The students were researching the issue of different kind of lichens existing in the region. On the basis of which, students made conclusions concerning ecological conditions of the region.

4. Deforestation - legal aspects
During the realization of the task the students were cooperating with the Environment and Agriculture Department of the Town Council in Tarnobrzeg. They gained there a lot of materials and necessary information. What is more, they made a trip during which they were looking for the most spectacular trees in our town.
